A Curse So Dark by Heather Davis is the first in a YA Paranormal Romance series.
“You can never really hide from what you’re meant to be…
A blood curse. Deadly secrets. A dark stranger.
When her deputy sheriff father goes missing, Lily Turner learns the quaint logging town of Pioneer Falls harbors terrible secrets–an unspeakable past connected to her family and a blood curse her father has hidden from his three daughters.
When Morgan McAllister arrives in town, Lily can’t deny their mutual attraction. But falling for Morgan may derail Lily’s efforts to find her father and to save her younger sisters from the family fate.
Searching for answers deep in the shadowy forests that surround the town, Lily will risk everything to uncover the truth. As hunters are exposed and rivals for the territory circle the Turner sisters, no one in Pioneer Falls is safe–– especially with the full moon rising.
From the author of Never Cry Werewolf comes this suspenseful new series full of dark secrets and heartfelt romance.“
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. Since I am someone who doesn’t read the synopses too in-depth before reading a book, I was still surprised with the route this book took. At first, it feels like a mystery to figure out what happened to her father, but quickly turns into a paranormal with WEREWOLVES.
I liked how we were introduced to the paranormal aspect with the opening chapters of a weird wolf scene that she seems crazy enough to get close to (of course the girl gets close to a dying animal). But I really enjoyed this book! Overall, the story wasn’t too predictable in foreshadowing.
I came into it thinking it was going to be more on the spooky side than horror, and I was right. This book deals with the darker, paranormal aspects of YA. My mind definitely jumped between the mystery of her father and the curse that comes to surface.
I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. This book felt like a mash-up between Twilight (Stephanie Meyer) and Sparked (Helen Echlin & Malena Watrous) while also keeping the uniqueness of a new book. I really enjoyed the connection between creature and romance, and is a perfect read for those nights reading under the moonlight!
