Myrnin, Myrnin, Myrnin

you insane twisted vampire, you have really screwed up this time…

Ghost Town really begins when Claire stakes and kills a vamp whilst trying to rescue Eve and is sentenced to no sleep or rest of any kind until she’s fixed the machine that runs Morganville, previously run by Ada. While she manages it, by the hair on her chinny chin chin, Myrnin tweaks it for his own purposes which causes both humans and vampires, one by one, to lose their memories of the last 3 years. As a result, all hell breaks loose with the hero being someone you wouldn’t expect but it was a redeeming act. By the end though, I’m not sure whether Myrnin’s actions were good. I think his actions we a means to an end. All the side effects though were not on purpose.

The biggest thing that I want to quickly comment on is the Myrnin-Claire dynamic which has recently changed from coworkers to possible love interest. This possibility is noted by several characters in this book plus Myrnin is unusually kind and caring towards Claire and makes comparisons between her and Ada who he admits was his lover. Also, I want to note that these emotions and feelings are strictly felt and done by Myrnin. Claire does not once engage, she still only has eyes for Shane. I’m hoping that this really doesn’t come to fruition because the dynamic of the group will be completely effed up.

Another thing I loved about this book was the politics (never thought I’d say that), specifically the relationship between Amelie, Oliver, and the town. It’s complicated but one of the lessons I’ve learned is never be complacent when you’re in a position of power, it leads to humiliating circumstances. Another rule of thumb is to never fall in love with your rival.

Overall, Ghost Town is another knockout in The Morganville Vampire series. They remain a quick read, action packed, and full of wit and charm.
