Book review: Little i, by Michael Hall

Hall, Michael. Little i. Greenwillow, 2017. $17.99. unp. ISBN 978-0-06-238300-6. Ages 4-6. P9Q9

The entire alphabet is bewildered after Little i’s dot rolls down the hill leaving Little i looking like a number instead of a letter. The search for the dot leads Little i to an island with an asterisk-covered tunnel, a patch of comma-shaped plants, a waterfall of exclamation points, and finally the dot. Little i decides to go back without the dot to become a capital I, achieving the approval from the other letters. Digitally combined collages of painted and cut paper fill the pages with bold color, especially the orange dot.

Verdict: Letters display delightful personalities, and the addition of punctuation is a wonderful contribution. An excellent exploration of the alphabet.
