Captive | Chicago PD S5 E12 Recap

I’ve been looking forward to this episode for a couple months now since Marina Squerciati gave us a teaser about it in one of her Facebook live videos. It was well worth the wait.

In the end, I knew they would rescue Atwater from being kidnapped, but that didn’t decrease the uneasiness I felt throughout the entire episode.

If you didn’t know that Adam was gonna be on the other end of the line when Kevin was given the phone with a chance to call “AD”, what are you even doing here? Ruzwater’s (and Burgess) friendship is one of my favorite things about this show and there was no way Kevin was gonna call someone else for help.

The determination of everyone, especially Adam and Kim, to find Kevin just shows you how tight knit this unit is and nothing was going to stop them.

Now the scene of the episode for me was

I think the picture explains it all, but Ruzek losing it and breaking down at the thought of never seeing his best friend again absolutely broke my heart. The raw emotion you could feel through the screen and that comforting hug from Burgess was everything and the perfect way to “calm” him down. Paddy was a star in this scene!

Finally, Kevin is rescued and that come from behind hug from Kim was so sweet. And then the hug between Platt and Atwater was not something I was expecting. Look at Kevin apologizing for missing her birthday party when none of this was his fault. (Side note – I really liked Trudy working with Intelligence and I’d love to see more of it.) But where was the Kev/Adam hug though? I guess Adam being the first to see Kevin in the church was good enough.

Paddy, Marina, and LaRoyce absolutely killed it in this episode. This season has become my favorite one by far. They are exploring big powerful storylines for all characters. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for us.
