review 1: Really didn't care for this book at all. It was so predictable, but at the same time, so unbelievable. Was I supposed to root for the protagonist, Tess, simply because the author keeps repeating that everyone who met her "liked her."? And two entirely different men fall in love with her at first glance? None of these characters were realistic or relatable. The relationship between Lucile and Tess was even more far fetched. Tess would have been fired at the beginning of the book for her headstrong behavior but instead we're just supposed to believe that Lucile sees Tess as a surrogate daughter (after knowing her a matter of weeks) and can't bear to let her go? I would have dropped this book early on had it not been for a new book club I'm trying out. Overall: Not worth your... more time to read.
review 2: An interesting story about the sinking of the Titanic. I was not aware that there had been inquiries made by a D.C. Senator concerning the actions by some of the survivors. Women and children were to be put into the lifeboats first, then any room left was for men. According to one of the sailors, several men boarded the lifeboats and one of them paid the sailors in the boat to not go back for any survivors in the water. No formal trial was held, but the reputation of these rich couples was seriously damaged. It was also a love story. less
