We had a visitor today.
His name is Coby and he’s a French Bulldog. He’ll be staying with us for a couple of weeks over Christmas. Our cat Java Bean is the boss of the house and the meeting today was their first
Java has had a couple of other little dogs visit but only for a few hours. He hit them both on the nose when we weren’t watching. Thankfully, Coby’s humans are OK with Java showing Coby who is the boss.
Mostly, Java inspects visitors, human or pet, and if he’s not impressed will take himself away and go to bed or into my husband’s office.
After Coby left, Java sat in my lap and happily received all of my attention, followed by an extra helping of biscuits.
Right now, Java has climbed up on my lap and wedged himself between my belly and the laptop. He’s 7kg and leaning heavily on my left hand. It’s going a little numb.
Java is very relaxed and pretty spoiled so I’m sure he’ll be fine with Coby staying. I secretly hope they fall in love and I’ll catch them curled up together.
I also quite like the idea of Java being extra cuddly with us! Very selfish, but he is the best cat ever and if it’s only his ego that gets bruised I’m prepared for him to pay that price for me to get extra attention from him.
Sad but true.
I might be working on better boundaries with humans and fighting the fear that people only like me if I do stuff for them, but when it comes to the cat, I’ll never stop trying to impress him.
