Narrative

In my daytime vocation, 2017 has moved along at a pretty good clip. I’m used to, and comfortable, having a number of things on my plate, and spinning those plates to success! The last two hours today, though, got me a little frenzied. A last minute request from one of our partners – this request is always last minute, it’s truthfully not their fault, and there is nothing they can do to control it (seriously) – and I was the one who needed to take care of it. This particular request is not a lot of work, but it requires dropping everything while the drip-drip-drip of information I need to fulfill the task can take a couple hours to receive. It’s not worth getting into any work in depth, because we are expected to drop everything in this situation and focus solely on this request.

In this case, I managed to fit in other, non-critical work while waiting for those drips to arrive. However, when that request was made, and then a request that I conduct a demo on one of our new systems next week came in shortly thereafter, requiring that I dismiss myself from an important project work session, let’s just say my brain was thinking, “It’s a twister!”

Now, I realize that my responsibilities are minuscule compared to those of the President of the United States, Congress, and the Judiciary. And, in some cases, they may be minuscule to those of the media. However, my vocational freak-outs are few and far between. It is rare for me to go into “twister” mode.
