review 1: Raramente mi è capitato di leggere un romance in cui i protagonisti passano la maggior parte del tempo a parlare e a non scambiarsi baci e moine. E' insolito che in un romanzo d'amore ci siano pochissimi momenti durante i quali i due innamorati - o presunti tali - si lasciando andare alla potenza della crisi ormonale, ed è altrettanto insolito che la costruzione della relazione amorosa si basi principalmente sullo scambio di dialoghi. La Guhrke, autrice molto brava che apprezzo sempre, in questo romanzo mi ha stupita parecchio. Non solo per la scelta del protagonista maschile, ma per tutta la struttura della storia. La protagonista femminile, invece, rientra pienamente nei canoni dell'eroina del romance storico e non ne esce. Daisy - il nome è proprio un programma - for... morese è esageratamente innocente e inesperta per i suoi 28 anni da zitella, tanto che a volte risulta essere sospetta. Il suo essere così pura nello spirito - e sì, ovvio, anche nel corpo - è stato usato molto bene dall'autrice. Se per me questo aspetto è una caratteristica negativa, usata come ha fatto la Guhrke diventa necessario. L'autrice ha messo in contrasto Daisy, come ho detto innocente fino all'ultimo capello ma dotata di grande grinta, e Sebastian, uno scrittore caduto in disgrazia dal carattere molto chiuso e oscuro. Il fatto che il protagonista sia uno scrittore, e uno che si lascia andare a delle insicurezze estreme - tanto da darsi alla droga - rende la storia meno sempliciotta. Il nobile in questione, che è un po' il cliché dell'eroe, non ha un'identità che ruota attorno al solito libertinaggio ma attorno alla sua vocazione. Nel suo essere scrittore, Sebastian dimostra un'intensità che molti duchi e principi del romance non hanno, dimostra un lato oscuro pienamente giustificato e non solo dovuto alla noia del suo rango. La depressione e la disperazione del blocco dello scrittore lo portano a toccare il fondo, vero e amaro, dove la sua unica possibilità era quella di scegliere la vita. La cocaina, sua fida alleata per scrivere ma causa della cattiva qualità della sua produzione, diventa un segreto da nascondere, una vergogna che teme tantissimo. Sebastian ha paura di riprendere a scrivere perché teme che senza la droga non riuscirà a combinare nulla. Il suo lato oscuro, quindi, è decisamente potente e 'giustificato'. Daisy viene usata come spinta, come scossa di adrenalina per Sebastian. Il suo difetto maggiore, l'onestà, la porta a scontrarsi con Sebastian sulla sua produzione. Per lei, che lo venera e che vuole diventare scrittrice a sua volta, è impossibile che lui non abbia più l'ispirazione. Ovviamente tra i due lo scontro è di volontà: lui si rifiuta di provare, per paura e per orgoglio, e lei si rifiuta di permettergli di nascondersi. Scatta la trappola: ad ogni 100 pagine scritte il premio è un bacio. E da questo punto, che è molto avanti nella storia, si sviluppa la loro storia d'amore nella sua espressione carnale. Prima era tutta una questione di testa, ora di corpi. In un certo senso la trama diventa banale proprio nel momento in cui si lasciano andare all'amore, perché i dialoghi, i battibecchi e la novità sono ormai schiacciati dalla passione. Non è un peggioramento, ovviamente, ma tutto sommato ho preferito la parte più introspettiva della storia. E' una storia che ho apprezzato per un aspetto che, nei romance, di solito passa sempre in secondo piano. Questa volta è la passione fisica ad essere trascurata, per dare risalto allo stadio iniziale di una relazione, quella fatta di dubbi, cervelli che fumano e sguardi clandestini. La Guhrke ci è riuscita benissimo!
review 2: Daisy Merrick, is outspoken and independent, and with every job her sister manages to find for her, she manages to get fired for being too opinionated, which is her downfall. However she loves writing, and goes to Marlowe Publishing for a job. When she gives a review on a play written by a man she once loved reading his work, she provokes him. Sebastian Grant, an infamous writer in England at one time, now hates to write, for it brings to him feelings of fear and helplessness due to his past. Sebastian is determined never to write again, but when the unrelenting Daisy comes to him with a resolution to solve both of their problems, he never expected that she would seduce him into writing again, when he at one time hated doing it. Sebastian has never believed in 'happily ever after' ending, but after being moved by Daisy's beauty and spirit, he dreams of a happy ending for himself.With Seduction In Mind is the fourth in the Girl-Bachelor series written by Laura Lee Guhrke. Now this series is about young women who are independent, outspoken and both the hero and heroine have yet to find love. I have truly been entertained by this series, and With Seduction In Mind definitely hit the bar. I love the whole interaction between the characters, both witty and sensual. At the beginning it started out slow, and things in the story didn't really pick up for me until halfway through the book, but once I got to that point I just had to flip through the pages to see what would happen between Daisy and Sebastian. One of the things that I just loved about this book was how engaging the story and the characters were to this reader, and I felt emotionally involved like I was drawn into the story, and seemed very riveting, and I wont lie, but brought a tear to the eye, especially at the end. One of the things I didn't like however was I wished it didn't drag a bit at the beginning, But definitely a satisfying read!!My Favorite Quote And I want you to marry me, and come back to Avermore with me, and write your books right across from where I write mine, so that whenever I am working, I can see your sweet, freckled face. less
