Death Note: Change the world

What if you had the ability to kill anyone by writing their name in a supernatural notebook? This is the premise behind the wildly popular “Death Note.”

“Death Note” is a Japanese comic (manga) series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The story is about intelligent high school student Light Yagami, who discovers the Death Note, a supernatural notebook from a creature named Ryuk, a shinigami (god of death). In the story, Light uses the “Death Note” as a means to cleanse the world of evil, and eventually, a detective named L discovers the bizarre deaths and attempts on trying to stop Light (now known as Kira) from causing more murders.

The story turns into a tense game of cat-and- mouse as Misa Amane another person with a shinigami and “Death Note,” finds and falls in love with Light. At the same time, L is assisted by Interpol and Light’s father.

The original manga ran twelve volumes and was quickly followed up with a 37 episode anime (animated by studio Madhouse) and several films, including four of live-action films. There was even a musical of “Death Note” in 2015! On August 25, 2017, Netfilx will be streaming an Americanized version of “Death Note” starring Nat Wolff and Willem Dafoe as the voice of Shinigami Ryuk.
