review 1: This book came to my hands unexpectedly on a promotion.Usually I don't read translated books from English speaking authors for I always think something must get lost in translation, however the blurb intrigued me so much that I felt compelled to start reading it right away. LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! A'isha feels, weeps and breathes through these pages! I felt her every emotion within me as if I had been there witnessing her victories and falls. The respectful way Sherry Jones speaks of the beginning of Islam and women's role in it, is anything but controversial in my opinion. Here their prophet is, above all, a man who did anything in his power to unite his people under the same God, the only one he believed in. Is that so reproachable? Yes, he did not turn the other chee... morek, and he wouldn't go down without a fight, but then, that's human, is it not? Some of us believe in a prophet so holy he sacrificed his mortal body for our sins, others in one who picked up his sword to fight for what he believed, when necessary. There are others who believe the chosen one hasn't stepped on this earth yet, and those who believe on a holy man who gave up all riches to purify his soul and reach nirvana, and at last there are those who believe nothing of the sort. Does it make us less humans? Does it turn us into different species? Because that is not how I see it. To me, we are all brothers, there is no Jihad, no holy war (let us not forget that Christians also called the crusades holy wars all in the name of power), for we are all brothers under this beautiful great family called MANKIND, and our differences are what make us unique.PS I never gave five stars to a cliffhunger, but I loved this one too much not to do it...now I'll have to buy the sword of Medina in English because it is not translated in my language.
review 2: se fosse stato jn romanzo qualsiasi, con protagonisti qualsiasi,sarebbe stato leggibile e carino,ben narrato. Ma. Il MA è che si sta parlando del Profeta e Aisha, risultando perciò blasfemo e ridicolo. Cercando di narrare la storia di una donna forte ed intelligente, è stato creato un abominevole racconto che travia le menti occidentali riguardo l'Islam. Fomentare il razzismo, obiettivo raggiunto. peccato, l'idea poteva essere buona. less
