Exploring the Francophile Fashion

I have a whole secret Pinterest board dedicated to Parisian Chic styles. I don’t think I could ever survive without my Pinterest boards which I started about 5 years ago but never shared with anyone. This is my first time sharing one of my boards. I’m not too sure why I’ve been keeping them a secret. I guess it’s just a preference of mine. When it comes to fashion, I liked to lay low on the things that inspire me which only now I don’t mind sharing.

Why Parisian chic?

I have always adored Parisiennes. Their style is iconic, timeless, effortless, yet practical. Plus, who doesn’t love the je ne sais quoi vibe that they have everywhere they go? I personally think that French women are the best when it comes to building a foundation for a wardrobe. For me, there is just something about these women that makes you want to live in France and be French.

But, it is actually easier to be French than you might think, and you don’t even have to be in France. Got a white tee which looks flattering on you? Court heels that hurt like a bitch? Black ballerina flats for when your feet fail you? A pair of everyday jeans? Red lipstick? Et voilà. Vous êtes Française! These are the things that MOST WOMEN already have in their wardrobe. Pair them up, apply your signature French perfume to your pulse points, and you are perfect to take over the world. The rules for nailing the French chic-ky deeky look are simpler than the French language itself! (Trust me. I took French at uni.)

Also, French women LOVE to share tips and tricks on fashion, beauty, love, and what to cook for dinner with friends. You just need to find a French woman who will inspire you. Go online. Go on YouTube. My personal favourite is Justine Leconte. She gives TONS of tips on dressing well, even for those on a budget! (like me) And one of the most iconic Frenchwomen of our time is Caroline de Maigret, whom I simply admire the most! I found out about her when I decided to grab my first fashion book when it was first published in 2014 which is How to be Parisian wherever you are written by her and three other authors. This book is the first of its kind that really got me hooked on French fashion and beauty trends.

It has everything I need to know as a young adult trying to find something good in life. It’s all about love and fashion and beauty and home and family and good and bad habits, and all that. It’s witty and it makes you feel like you know it all. But that’s what being a Parisienne is like. Parisian women think they know everything and would not admit defeat unless it benefits them. It’s a brilliant book for anyone whose passions include writing and fashion. I recommend anyone to pick up this book and really enjoy it.

Other French fashion icons I have on my secret Pinterest board include the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, Emmanuelle Alt, whose blazer looks I’m obsessed with, Inès de la Frassange who had a 20-year long feud with Karl Lagerfeld, (imagine having a feud with probably the most intimidating figure in the fashion industry.) and Clémence Poésy. A pretty impressive list, although I do hope I would one day reach their standards of French chic!
