For millennia, there has been a terrible force that has wrought despair and blood upon the stars in ways not even the gods could fathom. It’s a force that cannot be stopped no matter what happens, and they’ve taken up residence on our puny planet to wreck some raunchy metal that many others can’t even hold a fucking candle to. GWAR is an undeniable group of extraterrestrials whose music touches so many whether they like it or not, and their upcoming piece of nastiness is once again nothing to sneer at.
There are so few bands out there at this level of success that still manage to emit such a feel that gives away that the band is having so much fun performing while at the same time giving off an “I don’t give a fuck what you think” vibe that’s so powerful you can practically taste it. GWAR has been going at for absolutely years now, and the train has yet to stop as these titans just continue to charge right along as they prepare to release “The Blood of Gods” – one of the most fun, impractical, and organic records that I’ve experienced recently. And despite this pulsating record being not out of the norm for GWAR, who are themselves out of the norm, “The Blood of Gods” is still a very standout piece in a discography clearly peppered with highlights, and plenty of this album is worthy of maintaining such a legacy without a doubt. All of “The Blood of Gods” is overflowing with memorable pieces of catchy rhythms tied alongside material that’s not for the PC or anyone coming into the record with any sense of that bullshit known as “decency”. The entire album is a very fun ride with plenty of punctual moments that you don’t see coming, but GWAR pulls it off fantastically well to provide an experience that only they can bring, and it’s the sort of thing that people flock to. It’s often enough that we get an album that feels fun, but rarely do we get it in such egregious fashion as we get with “The Blood of Gods” to make the piece undoubtedly entertaining to the very end.
This band has always been the very definition of a head turner, and that trend continues to this very day as GWAR dominates all they see. “The Blood of Gods” is an album that takes no prisoners as GWAR is infamous for, yet it still retains a massive level of fun and hilarity to carry you to the very end.
