To start off the new year, I am purging. Clothes, books, toys, corners stuffed full of “where the heck did this come from?” items; all of it. I’m giving them to friends, family, donation centers; anyone and everyone who will reuse and find need in these materials. Clutter is one of the greater stressors in life personally-speaking, and what better way to start the new year than to get rid of the old, unused, and unnecessary?
This included my pitiful ‘to be read’ and ‘currently reading’ piles strewn about the house. So for January, I’ve picked 4 books: one my husband has been begging me to read, one I’ve been wanting to read, and two I’ve already begun but have yet to finish.
STONE OF TEARS by Terry Goodkind is the second in his Sword of Truth series. It’s one that my husband loves somethin’ fierce, so I’m reading it in exchange for him to read the Outlander series. They’re both thick enough to be a fair trade, so we’ll see how it goes. We originally agreed to exchange him reading A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS, before I realized that the series he picked for me is MILES AND MILES LONG. Ahem. So he acquiesced that it would be fair of him to exchange Outlander instead.
BRAIN ON FIRE by Susannah Cahalan is about a young journalist’s month of going inexplicably mad. I started it months ago, loved it, and put it down before getting a chance to finish it. This is something I do often. It may just be a book dragon thing. I don’t know.
RED QUEEN by Victoria Aveyard is a YA novel about a world where there are Red Bloods and Silver Bloods, the Silver being royalty with super powers and the Red being basically peasants. I fell in love with it months ago but, yet again, got distracted by my little one and haven’t had a chance to pick it back up.
Lastly, THE TRESPASSER by Tana French is the 6th in her Dublin Murder Squad series. I’ve been looking forward to this one since the last book she published, THE SECRET PLACE, because I absolutely loved her character Antoinette Conway. READ THESE BOOKS. They’re amazing.
What are you reading these days? Do you have piles of TBR worlds around your humble abode as well?
Until next month,
Taylor
