Residing in Cresskill, New Jersey, David Kushner serves as the president of Paradigm Capital Group where he assists commercial clients with their mortgage transactions. Devoting a portion of his time and earnings to community service initiatives, David and Nanci Kushner of Cresskill are supporters of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Always pursuing ways to support education and stimulate new advances in the field of diabetes treatment, JDRF recently announced that it has established a National Diabetes Psychology Fellowship Program. The program is aimed at increasing the number of physicians and care providers who are trained in the emerging fields of diabetes clinical psychology and diabetes psychology research.

Even though diabetes research and treatment protocols highlight the need for psychological treatment alongside medical treatment, the United States has a shortage of psychologists who are qualified to treat people living with type 1 diabetes. People living with the chronic ailment of diabetes must carefully manage their diet each day or face serious health consequences. Thus, patients diagnosed with type 1 diabetes have unique psychological and behavioral health needs. The JDRF fellowship will fund eight fellows for two years as they participate in a year-long training in diabetes psychology at clinical centers.
