Kaleidoscope Hearts (Claire Contreras)

He was my older brother’s best friend.

He was never supposed to be mine.

I thought we would get it out of our system and move on.

One of us did.

One of us left.

Now he’s back, looking at me like he wants to devour me. And all those feelings I’d turned into anger are brewing into something else, something that terrifies me.

He broke my heart last time.

This time he’ll obliterate it.

I’ve been meaning to read this book for ages now, and I’m glad I finally did it. I will keep my review short, because there’s not much to say, to be honest.

I really liked the writing, and I’m kind of excited to read the remaining series. I’m also curious to see what else this author has written.

It took me a little while to actually connect with the characters. For a long time I wasn’t quite sure about Estelle, and if I’m being 100% honest, I’m still not sure about some stuff, especially regarding her ex, Wyatt. That might be because I didn’t like him at all, but I felt like Estelle couldn’t quite see his faults, and how she regarded herself in the terms of him… it was a huge no. I appreciated that as the book moved forward, we got a deeper notion of that relationship, but I still felt like more should have been said about it.

I did like Oliver, and I understood his behaviour throughout the years. Even though I wish he had been more assertive about his feelings, I got his fears and limitations.

I’m a sucker for a second chance romance, and this is the very definition of one, so I loved the plot itself. I still feel like some subjects should have been explored a little more, and the book was missing some important conversations between Oliver and Estelle, but I enjoyed it a lot either way.

So guys, have you read this series?
