Hello! Today I am going to review a book that I recently read called ‘Looking For Alaska’ by John Green. So normal procedure. haha
SPOILERS AHEAD— READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
Okay so I really really enjoyed this book just like other John Green books I have read. I really like his works.
Starting this novel, I expected an emotionally straining romance and although the book was both emotional and kinda involved a romance, it was certainly not to the scale I had imagined.
I really loved the two-part structure of the book, ‘Before’ and ‘After’. I think that, to me, it showed what the book was really about. Life and death but more importantly life after death and dealing with grief. It has captured so beautifully, the effect Alaska has had on Miles’ life, which had previously been described as a ‘non-event’. She changes him in ways he never could have imagined and her passing only adds to that transition in his life.
Friendship is also shown as a huge part in this novel as John writes so perfectly of how Miles (and pretty much everyone else) look at Alaska with such awe and see her as an inspiration. She, although she may not have been the smartest or the most conventional, she brought joy to so many people and that, to me, really captures the true beauty of humanity.
I totally would recommend that you guys read this, it is truly amazing. Anyway thank you for reading and, as you can probably tell, I don’t post a lot of book reviews so please let me know what you think of this and if you have any other book recommendations.
X Emma
