One of the great things about the coming holiday season is the abundance of opportunities to help our friends and neighbors here in Citrus County. One such opportunity comes this weekend. On Saturday, October 28, the Community Food Bank of Citrus County in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service and eight local food pantries, present Make a Difference Day, part of the nationally observed occasion, A Day of Caring.
With the busy schedules and never-ending responsibilities of everyday life, Make a Difference Day presents a very real opportunity to contribute something meaningful in a very simple way. To participate, residents simply need to leave plastic bags with nonperishable food items at their mail box on Saturday, and mail carriers will pick up the goods as part of their normal delivery rounds, so they can be distributed to those in need.
The program happily accepts canned meats and vegetables, pasta and pasta sauce, soup, dried beans, cereals, peanut butter and jelly, powdered milk and other food goods that won’t spoil. (Please, no glass containers.) In addition, paper products, diapers and similar items are also welcomed.
Those who don’t have a mail box can drop items off at any U.S. Postal Service office in Citrus County from Monday, Oct. 23, through Saturday, Oct. 28.
So, rattle through those pantries and fill a bag or two. Make a difference this weekend. It’s easy, and it really does help.
