MONTH IN REVIEW ✣ OCTOBER

Hello friends! First of all, Happy Halloween!! I can’t believe we’re already at the end of October. It feels like it was just summer a couple weeks ago but we’re actually getting closer and closer to Christmas. Man, time is crazy. So, let’s get down to what may be one of my favourite things to do on here: month in review! Even though not a whole lot of new books were released for me this month, which would explain the lack of an Upcoming Releases post, I think I still managed to get some good reads in. And judging by the fact that I had to change my reading challenge not once, but TWICE means that I’ve been doing quite well in the reading department. Let’s get down to it!

Remember last month how I was actually shocked and flabbergasted that I managed to read 9 books? Well I didn’t beat that number this month but I came super close! Looking at my Goodreads it appears that I’ve read 8 books which is such a solid number!! And some of those books were actually pretty big so I’m actually kind of proud of myself. It also doesn’t look like any of these reads really disappointed me so that’s also great. We have a lot to talk about so I’ll stop rambling now.

OCTOBER READS
  • The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo – ☆☆☆☆ This is hands down the most beautiful book I’ve ever bought, read, and held. I love that Bardugo created all of these fairytales for her Grishaverse and I loved all the influences she used. The stories themselves were beautiful but my favourite thing was definitely the illustrations. So much beauty in one book. It was such a magical book and one that I wanted to go on and on forever.
  • The Black Key by Amy Ewing – ☆☆☆1/2 Though I felt like some things in this book were slightly disappointing, overall this was a great series. It had a protagonist I loved, a twisted and crazy plot, an unbelievably girl positive message and vibe, and ultimately a batshit crazy antagonist that I really enjoyed. I don’t regret this series at all.
  • If There’s No Tomorrow by Jennifer L. Armentrout – ☆☆☆☆ Will Jennifer L. Armentrout ever let me down? So far, no! This book was so fricking sad but it was also incredibly thought provoking and I loved it so much. It dealt with some serious subject matter and tackled multiple heavy subjects and I thought it was great. Although I might enjoy Armentrout’s paranormal more than her contemporary, she’s still one of my favourites.
  • One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake – ☆☆☆☆ HOLY CRAP THIS SEQUEL. I never expected to love this sequel so much after the first book. It was like all my complaints were heard and Blake gave me what I wanted. I got incredible character development, a wonderfully paced plot, and a death I’ve been plotting myself. It was so crazy and intense and fantastic. I can’t wait for the next book.
  • Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken – ☆☆☆☆ It took me 9 months to finally buy and read this book and I’m still embarrassed but it was so good. This series is such a good adventure series that gives me so much anxiety with all the time travel but the characters make it worthwhile. Plus we got themes of a found family which is always great. But maybe after this book we don’t mess with time travel for a while, eh?
  • The Studying Hours by Sara Ney – ☆☆☆1/2 While this book was purely a trash read I ended up enjoying it a lot. I mean there wasn’t much depth to this book and it was more about being light and funny and I think it achieved its goal perfectly. It was a nice read, for sure.
  • The Failing Hours by Sara Ney – ☆☆☆☆ This was NOT a trash read and it was NOT light and fun. It still had fun moments but it had depth and meaning and it broke my heart so many times. I loved getting to know Zeke more and actually understanding him and why he’s the way he is and I loved how Violet helped him in so many ways. I still need to properly review this so don’t let me forget.
  • More Than This by Jay McLean – ☆☆3/4 I only finished this book last night so it barely made the monthly deadline for again, forgive me for not having a formal review yet. It wasn’t a bad read but it wasn’t great. I actually liked the overall plot and the story that was told but it was just so poorly written grammatically that it was kinda hard. But I really liked the characters of this book so that’s good.
  • In terms of rereads, I reread The Hating Game by Sally Thorne…..for the third time. I have a problem ok? It’s not my fault that that’s the best book ever written. It was calling out to me, begging to be read again.

    READING CHALLENGE UPDATE

Like I previously stated, I ended up changing my reading challenge not once, but TWICE. So, as of October 31, I am 93% done my reading challenge!! So far, in the year of 2017 I have read 74 out of 80 books, not including rereads (except for like, 2 books) but I will be adding all of my rereads at the end of the year. I’m also 8 books ahead of schedule, but who’s counting?

Currently, I am reading Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout and I just received The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin in the mail today (a week early!!!) so I’ll be starting that tonight!!

    Until next time,
