My ATL Restaurant Review: Part 1

What I love about Atlanta is there are so many great restaurants to choose from. When my husband and I travel…what is the first thing we do? We check out what is the “best” place to eat in the city. I don’t know if there are any Aziz Ansari fans out there, but he does a really funny bit about how all of us want the best of the best and it’s our natural inclination to add the word best when we search for something. (it’s true) Typical Friday night moment from me…like what Aziz does here on Master of None.

Anyways! I wanted to share with you some of the “best” restaurants I have been to recently.

Staplehouse

I know this is an OBVIOUS choice, but it had to be mentioned. We finally had the chance to visit for our one year wedding anniversary a few months ago and, well, it lived up to all of the hype! We did NOT have a reservation, but we took a chance at 8 PM on a Thursday night. There were two seats open at the bar, and our journey of a dinner began. I think we may have almost ordered everything on the menu because it was hard not want to try everything. I’m a pescatarian and there were several options for me on the menu, which of course made me a happy customer! The restaurant is much smaller than I thought it would be, so people were waiting by where we were sitting. It wasn’t the most romantic spot because we were at the bar, but the food literally melted in your mouth! On a positive note, I just heard that Staplehouse opened a bar called Papercrane upstairs. A great solution to waiting for a table since their bar isn’t very large!

Golden Eagle Diner’s Club

Ladybird does it again! They knew that the Beltline would be hot, so they were one of the firsts to set up shop in their area. They have now opened Muchacho/Golden Eagle Diner’s Club at the end of the Beltline in Reynoldstown and they have definitely struck gold! The path will be finalized in March and I have a feeling this new restaurant will be even more packed than it is now. I went to Muchacho for breakfast and had a fruit toast and latte. They have a gorgeous assortment of baked goods and a few breakfast tacos. I would say it is a great place for a quick and easy breakfast while you do work or before you go for a stroll in the area.

While I was at Muchacho, I noticed Golden Eagle Diner’s Club and I had to find out more. I went to dinner there with my husband and another couple and we unfortunately couldn’t get a table inside (because the wait was so long!) We tried a plethora of things. It is a bit of quirky menu, but I am all about trying new dishes. This is a place that is all about the ambiance. Fortunately, we were able to snag a table in the lounge (pictured above) for dessert. The inside of the restaurant is very unique and you feel like you are in a different city, maybe even a different time period. If you are looking for an intimate place for drinks, this will be your new spot. These restaurants are both on Eater’s heat map for December 2017.

O-Ku

This is the best sushi you will have in Atlanta. And yes, I have been to Umi. My husband is a resident and we came here a while back to celebrate the conclusion of his general surgery year (it is a bit pricey).  However, when we go to a restaurant, we don’t mess around…especially when we are celebrating. Some of our favorite dishes were the Spicy Yellowtail Crunch, the Baja California and the Marilyn Mon roll. It is a bit dark and loud in the restaurant so I don’t know if it is the best place for a group dinner, unless you are on the rooftop
