My Top 4 Favorite Pinoy Movies

I admit that I am not a fan of local Pinoy movies.  For sure many will hate me for saying this but most Pinoy movies have a very shallow plot.   Some of the plots are “a rich guy fell in love with a poor girl with a love triangle”.  I cannot blame it with movie producers because these are the stories appreciated by most people. But I am real “hater” of Pinoy movies, actually, I listed here four of my favorite Pinoy movies.  It’s for you to judge my taste:

  • Mano Po 2

Mano Po 2 is the second installment of Chinoy movies produced by Regal Films.  It tells a story of a Chinese business tycoon with three wives and how complicated their lives are.Having three wives sounds funny, but if you are a Chinoy (like me), believe me, it can happen.

I know some Chinese people with two wives: one is from China and one is a Filipina and who knows if they get a mistress, welcome to the movie!Just for reference, fixed marriage is and still practiced by some Chinese people and up to now, some Chinoys are still practicing this kind of arrangement.  They usually do this to merge business and companies and you cannot say no.  You need to marry the other person even if you don’t love him/her or worse, you barely know your partner.  You will be disgraced and lose your inheritance if you don’t.

  • Kung Ako Na Lang Sana

This is a love story between characters of Aga Muhlach and Sharon Cuneta.  Initially, it looks like a typical movie, well, I still agree that this is just a typical movie: a playboy who fell in love with his childhood business-minded friend.

What do I like this movie? Not because of the love story but the story of their friendship.  This might not highly emphasize on the movie but the characters of Jennifer Sevilla, Christine Bersola, Dominic Ochoa and Shintaro Valdez proved that whatever happens, your friends will be there to support you regardless of how stupid or dumb you become.

  • One More Chance and A Second Chance

Since A Second Chance is the sequel of One More Chance, I will include these on the same spot.

The story of Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz’ characters are unique and not the typical kilig one.  It focused on how they fell out of love and wanting to find and know themselves better and broke-up.

Again, this will not focus on their love story but the story of their friends: the characters of Dimples Romana, Bea Saw, James Blanco, Janus del Prado and Ahron Villena.

In the movie, people expect that John Lloyd and Bea’s character will have a happy ending but when things go the other way around, friends were there to support them and give advice.

On the second movie, yes they got married but a happy ending is still not there. Married life became a little bit challenging for them but their friends are still there to support them (for better or for worse as they say).

  • Gimik the Reunion Movie

I think you already know the kind of that I want.  Once again this is a story of friendship.  From being young adults, they face life challenges with friends.

Please do not Google when was this movie launched and this has nothing to do with my age.  Believe me, I was just a kid when Star Cinema launched this movie.

Also, I miss Rico Yan.  I admit that I a fan and his death saddens me.

Before writing this blog, I don’t have an idea of what I like about Pinoy movies but then I realized that I appreciate stories of friends.  I might not have a movie story of my life but I have my own story to tell, together with my friends.
