review 1: I almost couldn't get into this book. I had my doubts. But I am glad I already knew this author was good. Ultimately, I liked the evolution of the characters. The things that Maysie did that bothered me didn't gel with the character that emerged after meeting "the guy". I became invested in them and their story long before I realized that was kind of the point. That is the most basic thing people learn at that age. They realize who they are and figure out who they want to be. So by the time the story ended I was at peace with some of my early criticisms. One of which was her overly harsh criticisms of herself, which plays heavily into this tale. And is highlighted by her father's blind expectations.
review 2: Okay, romance authors, seriously. Can we knock it of
... moref with the "jealousy is sexy!!" garbage? It's not. It's one thing to feel jealous that someone is looking at your significant other, but deal with it like a grown-up! Sexy is not beating the crap out of a dude for hugging your currently off-again girlfriend. Also, this book spent way too much time building up to the actual relationship. The first 10 chapters could easily have been condensed down. And the crazy amount of slut-shaming? Ugh.Still, the book was somewhat entertaining, for a read-in-one-evening pick. less
