New Year – Same Blog…

So this is my first written piece of 2018 (first in a few months aswell) and what better way to start off the year than catching up with local music, events and fighting off the Monday/January blues with lots of awesome things to look forward to…

There’s so much happening in the next few months – one of the things i’m looking forward to the most is definitely the February ‘Made in Hull’ Amsterdam mini cruise.

I missed out on this onboard event last year and I promised myself I wouldn’t do the same this year – Hopping on board the Pride of Hull and crossing the wintery water over to Rotterdam with the likes of local heroes Bud Sugar, Counting Coins, Black Delta Movement and Jack Conman – this was always going to be a winner.

So i’m packing my bags and heading off (after a full days work and pumped with all kinds of travel sickness remedies) to enjoy my first time in Amsterdam.

Moving onto the awesome releases locally and one particularly stands out to me – ‘No No’ which is the latest track from Live Lans has seriously stuck in my head.

Lans makes up 1/5 of Bud Sugar and aside from creating amazing vibes with this group of lads – he also flourishes as a solo artist.

Gaining huge traction and support in all of his releases – Lans has truly made a name for himself in the local music scene. Performing solo at The Welly Club, The Sesh and of course at the yearly Humber Street Sesh – he always ensures he puts on a fantastic show.

I caught up with Lans after his birthday trip to Venice – here’s what he had to say:

What inspired you to write ‘No No’? As far as I was aware the city knew how much work you are putting into being a solo artist?

I guess sometimes you just feel like you’re being overlooked. I think we all get that feeling from time to time. I was just trying to take the negative energy I had that day and put a spin on it. Some people still think the song is being negative – its more of a reminder to start the year, like look… I take my craft very seriously, I’m not stopping, only getting better and one day it will happen for me.

Going back to last year – you had trouble on board a train to London involving your laptop – can you tell me what happened?

Ahhhh that was devastating. Basically I left my suitcase on the train and lost my laptop and everything inside of it. At the time I thought i’d lost all of the music I was working on that year but luckily I had multiple back ups at the studio.
So moral of the story is… ALWAYS make back up’s and don’t forget your suitcase.

You’ve also just been to Venice for birthday celebrations  – could you see yourself performing out there?

Yeah definitely – I want to perform everywhere I can so I don’t see why not. I really wish I could have filmed a video whilst out there – the architecture is amazing.

You can hear Lans’ new track ‘No No’ here – also dont forget to check him out on Facebook (Live Lans), Instagram (@livelans) and Twitter (@LiveLans).

Speaking of Lans and all things Bud Sugar – i’ve had fun watching the bands daily vlogs which they are posting every day of January and Sunday live streams.

This allows us to keep up with what is happening in the Vibe Tribe world – new releases, fun events and competitions that are sure to keep us on our toes.

Not to mention reminiscing about all the amazing things they have achieved over the past few years – Hull’s Harlem shake, giant slip and slides, touring America in an RV, playing BBC academy and so much more.

If you haven’t seen the Hullywood series on YouTube – I seriously recommend you check it out!

So after the much-anticipated ‘Viral’ video the band released and their latest banger ‘Vampires’ – the wait is on to see what catchy, vibey treats they have in store for us on the ferry.

Check out Bud Sugar’s infectious music below.

To finish off my January blog i’m definitely excited for the next instalment of the Sofar Sounds secret gigs in Hull.

Working with local hot spots such as Studio Vibe, Poorboy Boutique and the latest – Del Gelato – Sofar Sounds manages to create a calm, homelike feeling to each event.
The success of this in Hull has been overwhelming – attracting the likes of local artists aswell as the widely known Calum Scott to perform at the intimate shows.

Hosted by The Warren Youth Project last year – great artists and people got together to support Amnesty International in their Give a Home project – here’s some of my favourite snaps from the event below.

Make sure to check out Sofar Sounds on Facebook and Instagram (@sofarsounds_hull) – also get in touch with the team if you’re interested in volunteering, hosting or performing http://www.sofarsounds.com/hull!

That’s all for now – watch out for my fortnightly updates! (New years resolution I’m determined to keep up with!)
