November Wrap Up!

Hey guys! I didn’t do too well with my reading this month. I read two full books and two short stories. Yup, not great! I found myself going into a bit of a slump, unfortunately. So I still have six books to read in December if I want to complete my reading challenge. But I have a week off at Christmas and no plans so I think this is plenty time to catch up if I fall behind.

1) The Devil’s Claw by Lara Dearman

If you’ve read my review for this then you will know that I really liked it but I just wanted it to be more exciting. It does suffer a little because it’s the first book in a series but I really liked all the characters. It’s about a serial killer who has been killing young girls for decades and making them look like suicides. Very interesting idea and I think Lara pulled it off really well. I just wanted the identity of the killer to be revealed earlier on because the book is nearly 400 pages long, but you don’t find out who the killer is until the last 20 pages or so. I think this is too long to wait and it needed to be revealed earlier. But I was kept in the dark the whole time and didn’t have a clue who the serial killer was. So I was quite surprised when it all came out which I liked!

2) Sherlock Holmes and the Shadwell Shadows by James Lovegrove

I’m quite disappointed with this book and almost didn’t finish it several times. I didn’t like Sherlock and Watson at all. I thought the story was very boring and it didn’t really make sense. It did get quite exciting in some places though which made me perk up and actually want to finish this book. But overall it’s definitely not a book I will be remembering or wanting to re-read any time soon. I’ll have a full review for it coming soon!

3) A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Thought I’d take a trip down memory lane and read the first ever Sherlock Holmes book again. I have this massive thick book with all the stories in and I’ve always wanted to just read through them all in one go. I think I will do that next month. Reading different versions from different authors has got me in the mood for the originals. I really like these stories!

4) Futura: A Novella by Jordan Phillips

I went into this book expecting something completely different to what I got. I’m not sure what happened but please don’t think I was disappointed with this book – I wasn’t. I really enjoyed this book but it didn’t really excite me. I like exciting books with exciting characters and stories. These characters didn’t excite me. They felt a bit flat but I think what made me carry on reading this story was the futuristic aspect it had. It’s set in 2050 and the human race apparently has a bright future. I’ll go into more detail in my review but these are my thoughts so far.

What books did you read this month? Did you do better than I did? Let me know in the comments! I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you so much for reading!
