review 1: This 'book', only a few pages long, was over almost before it began. I think I started and finished it between the distance of about 10 Tube stations on my commute! I'm sure some will see in it a simple message of hope; of taking comfort in everyday small things; appreciating what you have etc. But honestly, this just didn't have any impact on me or lasting impression at all. Harmless, sweet but simply forgotten as quickly as I read it unfortunately.

Then came a chance encounter with a salesgirl at a cleaning store. What began as a perfunctory ef... morefort to sell a product became an unexpected meeting of hearts. So much depth in apprehending personal grief was bound up in so few words. "A Faraway Smell of Lemon" had the familiar sensitivity that I have come to expect from Rachel Joyce's writing.
