Planning the next trip – Guildford, Salisbury, Bournemouth, Winchester and the New Forest

Sometimes the husband gets to travel on business and this time I am going with him.  We are heading down to the South coast, Bournemouth to be precise and this destinations takes us through some interesting stops.

My itinerary looks like this so far.

The Angel Hotel, Guildford

This building has its roots back in the 14th Century at least.  Been keen to visit this Coaching Inn for ages as I have heard that it was a regular stopping place for Jane Austen and has at least one ghost.

After visiting Guildford and hopefully getting some morning coffee at the Angel Hotel, we will carry on along the A31 and go up over the Hogs Back – great view up there.  We will then head on to Salisbury to visit the Red Lion.  Hopefully we might get some lunch there.  The building is another one dating back to medieval times and it looks like it could be an interesting visit.  We can check out the restaurant as we may well be visiting some relatives in Salisbury for a visit to the Cathedral towards Christmas.

Red Lion Hotel at Salisbury

From Salisbury we will probably head down to Bournemouth – might make a stop on the way there, depends on time.

I haven’t got anything planned for the time we are in Bournemouth, but on the way home we plan to head for the New Forest and then Winchester for a brief look at the cathedral.  My lovely neighbour stays in a great hotel in the centre of Winchester, so we may pop in there for some tea.

Looking forward to the run.

In the meantime I am catching up on some reading about Jane Austen.  Got the latest biography by the wonderful Lucy Worsley called Jane Austen at Home
