“You might have a face to turn my hair white, but your honesty is handsome.”
Radiance is the first book in the Wraith Kings series by Grace Draven.
Ildiko (I”m still not 100% sure how to pronounce that), the niece of the Gauri king, has always known she would be used to create a strategic marriage. What she didn’t realise was that her chosen groom is not even human…
Brishen Khaskem is the prince of Kai and is the non-essential heir to the throne. Only his and Ildiko’s marriage can secure a much needed treaty between the Kai’s and Gauri’s.
So this book wasn’t was I was expecting, but in a good way. You would think being forced to marry someone who is practically a different species would may one or both of the participants upset/ mad/ whiney/ outraged… Nope. While Brishen and Ildiko at first find each other hideous they marry without complaint and form a friendship through trust and understanding.
Ildiko journey’s with Brishen to his homeland where she stands out like a sore thumb but people slowly come around to her over time (well not everyone). I think it’s pretty obvious from the cover and the Goodreads blurb what happens but even knowing that I still really enjoyed the book overall.
I did find it a bit hard to believe at times that they were both so chilled out about their predicament but it’s nice to read a book where characters don’t whine the whole time.
“Theirs was an agreement based on the beginnings of friendship, respect and an intuitive understanding of each other that still left him slack-jawed with amazement.”
Anyway definitely worth a read though it does lean more towards being a romance novel (slow burn at that) so if your not into that maybe give it a miss.
Thanks for reading!
