My mouth went dry as all kinds of confusion exploded in my head. Keep it together. Don’t show weakness. He left you.
He left you.
A calm washed over me and all my strength as a professional business woman, as just a woman who’d been through and seen a few things, came back and held me up. What did it matter that the love of my life, the man that shattered me into a million pieces in a stadium parking lot was standing in front of me fifteen years later looking good enough to lick from head to toe?
I was better than that.
Another great read by Sharla Lovelace – I loved her first Charmed in Texas with Nick & Lanie and I couldn’t wait until I was able to read Carmen’s story. She is such an independent and strong woman that I was eager to find out what man could throw her world out of whack.
This book follows the story of Carmen & Sully, who had a whirlwind romance when they were younger before Sully left with the carnival, breaking Carmen’s heart in the process. After he comes back in to town – with plans to stay – Carmen has to remember all the pain from her past every time she runs into him. She has always had the strongest desire to leave Charmed; the more time she spends with him and the stronger the desire to run away – & stay away – gets. The adventure that their relationship goes on is another whirlwind and great for the reader.
The way the author wrote the chemistry between the two main characters was so realistic – and the town of Charmed! I did not come from a small town but when I picture one in my head Charmed fits the bill, to a T. I fell in love with the place when I read the first book & this one just cemented my affection for the people, or at least most of them. You don’t necessarily have to have read Charmed Little Lie to be able to follow this but you do get to revisit with Nick & Lanie – as well as anyone else you want to from Charmed – if you read them in order. This book had me laughing, and crying; the author was able to surprise the reader quite a few times. All in all, this was a well rounded book & a pretty quick read. If you haven’t read this author yet – this series is a great place to start! Once you start a book, you won’t want to put it down.
