Is it just me, or did November go by in a week? Yet somehow, I managed to read my average of four books this month. I could’ve read five or six, but this past week I’ve been in a slump and just haven’t read at all. Part of it is from the holiday weekend, I know that. The other part… I’m still trying to figure out.
I started the month by finishing off The Bookshop on the Corner, which was a cute little read, but I did have some issues with the last third of the book. I think my favorite thing about the book was that it took place in Scotland, so I was able to hear the natives’ voices in a Scottish accent in my head as I read the book.
From there I went on to read Jek/Hyde by Amy Ross. The book is basically a modern-day story of the classic novella by Robert Louis Stevenson, and I really enjoyed it! It was probably more interesting for me because I hadn’t read The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde before, so I had no idea what to expect (other than the obvious). And of course, I had to read the original story right after to see what the changes were (and so I could say I read the classic… finally).
Then I read my very first eARC novel, Time Bomb, and oh. my. gosh. I cannot wait for this book to come out next year so that everyone can enjoy it, and so I can get my own hard-copy of it! The story kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time, so I ended up reading 80% of the book the first day (I would’ve finished if I hadn’t had to get up early the following day). Of course I finished it the next day though and could not stop thinking about it. I’ll probably re-read this when it comes out in March next year to celebrate it’s release.
Finally, I read Karen Kingsbury’s newest release, In This Moment. It’s a story that Christians can relate to very well in these times with everyone coming down to persecute the Christian faith for the littlest reasons. The story is inspiring with the characters’ testimonies of faith through different trials of persecution, anxiety, and salvation and they all go together so well. Just another reason why Kingsbury is one of my favorite authors!
And that’s all I have for this month. Like I said, I would’ve read more, but I hit that darn reading slump and can’t seem to get out of it. I’m hoping I’ll be able to soon though. My TBR will pile up even worse if I don’t get a move on.
