review 1: This was the most intense book I've read in a long time. In fact, parts of it were so difficult to read, I almost gave up, but I'm glad I finished it. This is a book about people with scars, mostly inner scars. The characters have the most painful lives imaginable and are each trying to find their way along. It is a bit of mystery because the author doesn't tell you until about the last 25 pages what all the scars are really about and the ending came as a bit of surprise to me too. Definitely thought provoking but not an easy read.
review 2: I read the book “I Will Save You” by Matt de la Pena which starts off with the main character Kidd pushing his “friend” devon off a cliff. After that it goes back in time and gives events leading up to where th
... moree book started, Kidd pushing his “friend” off the cliff. Kidd is a young boy who escaped from the horizons, which is a therapy camp but he also tries to escape his past which he can’t get over about. When he leaves the horizons he goes to work as a maintenance worker in California with a man named Red who was in charge of the camp. While he is there, he falls in love with a girl named Olivia. Devon follows Kidd to the camp he went to work at, Devon went to the horizons also. Devon caused Kidd a lot of pain and drama, he also tries to take away Olivia from Kidd. Throughout the whole story Devon causes problems for Kidd, but a twist comes in. The whole time Kidd thought he was protecting Olivia from Devon but Kidd turns out to be Devon the whole time. He was trying to protect Olivia from himself, he just never realized it until he jumped off a cliff. He thought he pushed Devon off the cliff and he just fell with him but he was the one who jumped off the cliff. He wakes up in a hospital. He thought he was someone named Devon. Devon was never a real person only a scary figment of Kidd's imagination. Through the story Kidd is fighting with himself in his head and ends up jumping to get rid of Devon. He realizes everything he saw Devon do, was everything he actually did. Like waking up under a bridge with a girl on top of him, stealing from stores, and pulling out a fake gun on a couple of rich white kids. All the events he thought he did with Devon, were events he actually did by himself just thought it was Devon. less
