review 1: The author was born in a small town in Norway just as its neighborhood was struck by a wave of mysterious arson fires. Peoples lives were threatened and properties were destroyed. The arsonist was known but never prosecuted. The author entangles the complexities of what was for him a formative event. I love Scandinavian literature in translation. This is a very different kind of "detective novel" and I enjoyed it. :-)
review 2: Pensavo fosse un giallo (l'ho catalogato così), ma è più una sorta di thriller psicologico. In realtà, la storia, ispirata a fatti realmente accaduti in Norvegia negli anni '70, è piuttosto semplice. Molto bravo l'autore nel raccontarla tramite digressioni temporali e diversi punti di osservazione, con uno stile quasi document... morearistico. Un romanzo insolito, insomma, che potrebbe non essere apprezzato dai lettori di gialli più convenzionali. less
