REVIEW – The Iron Tiara by Beth Flynn

Title – The Iron Tiara
Author – Beth Flynn
Publication Date – July 18, 2017
Series – Nine Minutes Trilogy Spin-Off

Anthony Bear and Christy Chapman are from two completely different worlds.

Anthony’s the leader of a motorcycle gang that terrorizes Florida’s West Coast. As a child, he ran away from his family and the Cherokee Indian Reservation to enter a life of crime. As an adult, he leads a multifaceted life managing his two businesses—his legitimate landscaping venture, and his loan shark and underworld dealings. Driven by anger and betrayal, Anthony begins the hunt for Christy’s father, Van Chapman, after he runs out on a loan.

Christy’s privileged life is not as it seems. She has kept painful family secrets and hidden some of her own. She’s determined to find out the truth and expose Van, but her search delivers her right into Anthony Bear’s hands, adding kidnapping to his list of crimes.

Their worlds are as contrasting as the color of their skin. The only thing they seem to have in common is their mutual disdain for Van Chapman…and each other.

They couldn’t be more wrong.

Once again, Beth Flynn has delivered on an emotional, action-packed novel that I simply could not tear myself away from. The Iron Tiara followed Anthony “Bear” and Christy’s story, which turned out to be nothing like I had expected. I thought there would be a hardness to it (especially given my knowledge of Bear); yet, I fell in love with their relationship and how effortless it seemed to be.

“She may have only been eight years old, but she learned two important life lessons. The first was that she was finished being a victim, especially now that she knew how to defend herself.”

The Iron Tiara had such an interesting dynamic because while it was raw and gritty at times, it also didn’t feel as angsty as the original trilogy. Flynn was able to combine some of the darker elements of the MC sub-genre with swoonworthy moments of the romance genre and it kind of surprised me at times. I never knew which side to expect from the characters and could never guess what was going to come next. I have to admit that one of the best parts for me personally was the surprise occasional appearance of Grizz and Kit. It was special and touching to see them together without the events of the Nine Minutes trilogy taking over. Furthermore, it rekindled a love I have for those books, while also showing how talented she is as an author. She instantly had me invested in Christy and Bear, drooling and aching for nothing but more.

“She may have only been eight years old, but she learned two important life lessons. The first was that she was finished being a victim, especially now that she knew how to defend herself.”

Flynn’s writing is as addictive as ever with the release of The Iron Tiara. She has a special quality that draws me in and devours me whole, and I can never seem to get enough. Anthony and Christy had a slow burn, yet insta-love romance, and I can’t say I’ve previously seen that combination pulled off as perfectly as it was carried out here. Beth Flynn isn’t one of those authors who releases every few months, but you can bet that when she puts a new work into the world, it’s absolutely golden. The Iron Tiara was no exception, and with the setup that I saw happening, I’m already anxious to see just what she will come up with next!
