Gail Gideon is a take-charge, single mom, known nationwide for the honest advice she dispenses on her very own radio show. Her daughter, Nic, couldn’t be more different — a shrinking violet just trying to survive adolescence.
When a horseback riding accident puts Nic in the hospital, she emerges as someone Gail doesn’t know. She’s fearless and impulsive, to the point that she’s getting into trouble. Meanwhile, Gail is also troubled by the possibility that she has a stalker.
I love the quote that I used to kick off this review because it reflects the kinds of changes this mother-daughter duo are facing. Gail is looking to strike out on her own, try a new format with her show. Nic is discovering a side of herself that she never knew existed.
“Every Wild Heart” is a poignant tale of the bonds between a mom and her little girl who isn’t so little anymore. There’s a bit of suspense woven in as Gail tries to figure out who keeps threatening her. Nic takes on a school bully in a unique way, and is determined to tame a rescue horse that seems beyond anyone’s help. And of course, mom and daughter both find romance.
This is, for all intents and purposes, a novel from the heart — with a bit of a wild side.
