Review: Another

Having watched a lot of anime that weren’t horror, I decided to watch this. Another was rated top most horror anime on two websites so I gave it a try.

The plot is basically a boy named Sakakibara Kouichi from Tokyo who transfers into class 3-3 of Yomiyama North. He stays with his aunt and grandparents. Now his class is cursed. It all began when a popular girl named Miskai from the same school died in 1972. Every year there exists an extra (dead) person in the class and the number of desks in the class falls short because of this person. And then the curse begins.

The head girl of the class, Akazawa Izumi, is determined to not let the calamity ruin their school year and makes a plan to treat one person from their class as non-existent as a countermeasure to make up for the extra (dead) student.

That year’s non-existent person is a girl called Miaski Mei. However, Sakakibara- unaware of the curse- goes ahead to befriend Misaki. And then students from the class (including some of their family members) start dying randomly in a very Final Destination kinda way.

So, basically, they need to find somehow who the dead person is and how to stop the curse. This is an okay anime. Honestly it could’ve been so much better. There are tons of plotholes. If only they had used their brains, they would have found who the dead person was ages ago. But yeah, it kinda was scary at some points and the effort taken was really good.
