review 1: Great romantic read! You can't help but root for the main character Laura Jean and really all the characters. This book just felt very realistic. In this book, Laura Jean must cope with her beloved and seemingly perfect older sister leaving for college. Since their mother died when the girls were young, now Laura Jean is the new mother hen of the family. In addition, her year gets even tougher when the love letters she wrote to her crushes that were locked away and never sent actually get sent! Beyond the fun story, this book got me thinking about the impact that is felt by the family when the oldest sibling leaves the nest. As the oldest in my family, I never really thought about that! Finally, I liked that this book featured a mixed-race family--Laura Jean and her s... moreisters are half Korean, half white. I highly recommend this book to older middle school or high school girls!
review 2: I thought some of the plot was rushed. Lara Jean's letters get sent out and we see the fallout, but not equally for all of the letters. I suppose the author glosses over them in a hurry to get to the one that matters. I noticed that a sequel is planned (I think all of her books are series) so that explains it. One thing I loved: the family relationships felt real. Sisters rely on each other and turn on each other too. Also, the dad's struggle to keep the girls' Koran heritage intact was very sweet. less
