review 1: My 4th grade son first read this and wanted me to read it so he would have someone to talk to about it because he liked it so much. Considering that he has a hard time finding books he likes and isn't much of a reader, I was happy to do it. As it turns out, I really liked the book and can't wait to read the next one in the series. It has elements of Harry Potter, Hunger Games and Divergent, but yet is original in its own way.
review 2: What if being creative was bad? The Unwanteds, by Lisa McMann, is a a inspiring fiction book that I much enjoyed. In Quill, there are three classifications for citizens; The Wanted, the Necessary, and the Unwanted. The Wanted go to universities, and the Unwanteds are sent to their graves. How are you classified? If in your chi
... moreldhood history, before you turned 13, you did anything at all creative, you were classified as unwanted. This could mean singing, drawing, even boasting in a creative fashion. But it turns out that after Quill sends the Unwanteds off to their execution site, the turn a blind eye towards them. They don't realize that there are people out there looking out for them. And a lot of other Unwanteds looking out for them, too. The Unwanteds are welcomed into the world of Artime, where they are trained to use their creative talents. But what will happen if Quill finds out? It seemed like this book was focused on a trait that it was common for people to have, particularly kids as people say, and turned it into a nice and slightly inspiring. The characters seemed to be realistic 13 year olds. They acted like they were, at least, and I suspect that the author might have had someone to reference to. You will like this book if you were looking for a a novel similar to Harry Potter. I rated it 4 our of 5 stars, just because although it was a book that I very much enjoyed, all though not my most loved facorite. less
