Review:
Melanie and Angie are best friends who have gone into business together. They are the proud owners of Fairy Tale Cupcakes. They have both worked very hard to make their dream a reality and they do not want anything to ruin their dream and business. So when a murder takes place and Melanie is a person of interest, they know they have to find the real killer before their business goes down the drain and Melanie is locked up forever.
The characters are well developed, well rounded and three dimensional. Melanie and Angie are both feisty, funny and full of life. They have been best friends for a long time, and together with their friend Tate, they are like the Three Musketeers. I really enjoyed spending time with all of them. None of them are perfect and that made them seem all the more real to me. Angie’s brothers are very protective of her and they added another level to the story.
The writer is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book I felt like I was right there in Old Town Scottsdale, visiting the cupcake shop and eavesdropping in on conversations. The setting really pulled me in and I would love to go and visit there.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. I thought the mystery was well plotted and moved along at a nice pace. There were enough suspects to consider and clues to sift through that I was not able to figure out the culprit on my own.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. This book has it all: great characters, humor, romance and plenty of suspense. I read the first few books in the series many years ago, I am now going to read the series from the beginning. I loved the book back when I first read it and I loved it again. If you have not read this series, I would suggest you do so.
