River Marked is the 6th book in the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. There are spoilers in this review.
‘Coyote shifter Mercy Thompson knows that life with her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will never be boring, but even their wedding doesn’t go as planned. Nevertheless, a ten-day honeymoon camping on the banks of the Columbia River, alone, just the two of them, should make up for it. But the trip – and the pimped-out trailer they’re using – is courtesy of the fae. And nothing from the fae comes without strings attached…
Being a different breed of shapeshifter – a walker – Mercy can see ghosts, but the spirit of her long-gone father has never visited her. Until now. An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River – and innocent people are dying. As other walkers make their presence know to Mercy, she must reconnect with her heritage to exorcise the world of the legend known as the river devil…‘
I’ll start off by saying that the one prediction that I had made for River Marked didn’t come true. Which is great. I figured with how Silver Borne ended, that River Marked would be primarily about Samuel and his wolf. I’m so glad that this story didn’t revolve around Samuel/Sam, but Mercy herself! I’m incredibly glad that River Marked was more about Mercy, her roots, and Mercy’s bonds with Adam.
I’m incredibly glad that Stefan is back! Not all entirely back up and running, but back nonetheless. Unlike the last few books. It’s nice though, that we found out where he was though. I’m just so happy that Stefan (for what it’s worth) is back in the loop!
And Charles was mentioned in this book–which is rare. We don’t normally hear things about Charles at all, really. With Charles being mentioned again, that just leaves me incredibly interested again in the Alpha & Omega series.
I have no idea what happened, but I sensed a lot of character growth within River Marked, which is completely confusing because I don’t know when this shift in Mercy happened. I’m so happy for Mercy though!
I wonder if Mercy is pregnant because what of the Medicine Man had said to Mercy before they left to go back to Adam’s house.
Please Note: PERTAINING TO THE NATIVE PEOPLE’S HISTORY AND STORY WITHIN THESE BOOKS, I CANNOT FOR SURE TELL IF THESE STORIES WERE/ARE ACCURATE OR NOT.
I ended up giving River Marked 3 of 5 stars.
Happy Reading!
