review 1: I marked it four stars but I would prefer three and a half. although in the end I liked the story I had a very difficult time with the ghost who was one of the main characters. I bought the book because it was set in Ireland , my favorite country. Ellen Trawton runs away from her London home and hides out at an aunts house in Connemara, an aunt her mother never mentioned but Ellen located her through a Christmas card she had sent. She finds the aunt and also four uncles she never knew about. She finds herself becoming more and more comfortable in her new life and falls in love with Connor Macausland who was widowed five years before when his wife, Caitlin, fell from the top of an off shore lighthouse. However, Caitlin is still very much around and is determined that Conno... morer will love only her forever and tries everything she can to sever the growing relationship.I don't believe in ghosts and the presence of this one really grated on me. I could not accept her or what she was trying to do. Totally unbelievable. Too bad because the story had so much promise and cold have been told without the ghost as all with no change in the plot.
review 2: I have always loved Santa's books and this one has been a lovely read but she has written books that I have enjoyed more than this one. Ellen runs away to a Aunt in Ireland to escape a doomed engagement and discovers a family she didn't know existed. It seems her mother has kept secret a lot of things and Ellen feels like she has returned home especially when she meets and falls in love with a recently widowed man. The story is partly told via the ghost of his wife, which was fine, but what I found difficult and spoilt it a little bit for me was that Ellen was 33 years old but the character was written as someone at least 10 years younge in my opinion. Having said that the other characters in the book are strong, humerous and very likeable. I enjoyed the book and look forward to Sants's next story. less
