SFI, AISA Occupies Vishwavidalaya Station against high Metro Fares

Delhi University students belonging to different students’ organisations protested at the Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station demanding a rollback of fare hike on 18th January afternoon.

The students belonging to the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), All India Students’ Association (AISA), and other organisations blocked the entrance of one of the gates of the Metro station as part of their ‘Occupy Vishwavidyalala’ protest.

“Many students travel through Metro to reach colleges come from middle or lower-middle class. This fare hike is resulting in extreme problems for all of us, and will force many to opt out of higher education” said Utkarsh, an SFI Activist.

Later, the students formed a human chain blocking traffic on Mall Road for a few minutes. The students submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Prime Minister’s Office and Delhi’s chief minister, to a Metro official who assured that it will be forwarded to senior officials.

The protestors also demanded that the DU students should be provided with passes for concessional rates on the Metro.
