review 1: I must confess I was having a love-hate relationship with this series, and since it was the first series I've read by miss James also with her writing. But since I read all those glorious reviews of her fans and I was in need of a new author to love so I kept reading on.I also must confess I skipped 2 books in this series entirely: # 2 and # 5. The first solely based on reviews and the second because their story had been featured in so many of the previous books that I got bored with the main characters Jenna and her husband. The love hate with this series was partly because there were too little books that solely focussed on 1 h/h. So I skipped entire chapters in some of the books to make the story fit my needs. But this book I loved. I was looking forward to this book sin... morece book #1 and since my love-hate relationship I was so afraid it might disapoint. Boy am I glad it didn't. True, the book is best in the first half. After the midpoint the inner reflections sometimes overshadow the action and dialogue. And true, the h/h aren't really nice to the other characters in their 'getting to know eachother biblically' and that his children had entire chapters of their own isn't normally my thing, but I was so glad in the end it was all about h/h. The ending was also fitting I thought. Villiers was a flamboyant character that used clothing to play his bad boy part in society. So it was just so right to use that as part of the ending as well. There is a #7 book in this series that I'm going to skip. I want to end this series on a high. Now on to the Fairytales. I wonder how the writing of miss James in that series holds up. So far it hasn't been as consistent as for example Tessa Dare, Julia Quinn, Paula Quinn or my absolute favourites Monica McCarty and Sarah MacLean.
review 2: While most of it was quite engaging, there were times when it just seemed a bit forced. Overall I did find it enjoyable and the two main characters were mostly entertaining, though I didn't really have a solid engagement with them or with what they looked like.Leopold Dautry, Duke of Villiers is determined to find a wife who can cope with his string of by-blows. When he first meets Eleanor, the Duke of Montague's daughter, he proposes to her, and then finds that he's also attracted to the eccentric Lisette, daughter of the Duke of Gilner, who seems to also be perfect for his purposes. Can he find a woman who can cope with his children and satisfy him? It's pretty predictable but it's interesting, nothing too deep but it kept me reading. less

Not my favorite. I like the start and the end, but the middle of the story was annoying.
