Sneaky’s Interview of Mouse from Pre-Meditated Murder by Tracy Weber

It’s my lucky day.  I have another pet here on blog tour for her new book with Escape with Dollycas Into a Good Book. Hello, there, Kitty. What is your name and your author’s name?

My name is an unpronounceable combination of purrs, head butts, growls, and smells. Humans, however call me Mouse. I’m a calico Hemingway cat. I have seven toes on each of my front paws. The author who writes about me is Tracy Weber.

How very interesting. I’ve heard about the Hemingway cats. I bet it’s nice having an extra toe. What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

I’m a new arrival to Tracy’s mystery series, and my first appearance is in her newest Downward Dog Mystery, Pre-Meditated Murder. Tracy’s series is a cozy mystery series.

Very mice. My author Debbie writes the cozy series I’m in, the Cobble Cove mystery series. My co-star is a dog also. Fido is a golden retriever, and I’m a Siamese. Can you tell us more information about your series?

The Downward Dog Mysteries feature yoga teacher/sleuth Kate Davidson and her ferocious-looking German shepherd, Bella. I think Bella is a sweetheart, but she doesn’t like other dogs or most bearded men. I’m hoping that she and I will eventually become fast friends.

I”m sure you will. Fido and I get along quite well. It’s the humans you have to watch out for.

Are you based on a real cat such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

My author friend Tracy rescued an orange semi-feral kittem named Devil-cat when it was about four months old. Tracy loved Devil-cat, and they lived together in Tracy’s house for sixteen years. Devil-cat on the other hand, didn’t like humans very much, including Tracy and her husband. So Tracy never got to pet her or cuddle with her until the last few months of Devil-cat’s life. The vet thinks Devil-cat probably had a brain tumor near the end, but one of its side effects was that it made her suddenly friendly. So Tracy and Devil-cat got some good bonding in before she passed away a few years ago. Tracy still misses her.

Aw what a touching story. Devil-cat must’ve had a bad experience with humans at a young age. That happens sometimes. I’m so glad your author got to bond with her at the end, and I understand how much she must miss her kitty. My author recently lost her 17-year old cat who was Siamese like me. In fact, my character is based on him. His name was Oliver, and he was the friendliest cat. Everybody loved him especially Debbie, so she misses him a lot, too.

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

In this scene, Kate is getting a haircut from the woman who adopted me.

Crystal grasped a large chunk of my hair and prepared to make a few final cuts.

Everything next seemed to happen at once.

The door behind me opened and Rene’s voice called, “Aren’t you about done in here? We’re bored.”

Bella—who stood on leash next to her—spied Mouse, or more accurately, Mouse spied Bella. The calico kitten arched her back like a Halloween decoration, let out a loud yowl, and dove into the hole behind the shampoo bowl.

“Oh no, a cat!” Rene screamed. She broke into a sneezing fit and dropped Bella’s leash.

Bella froze for a moment, torn. On the left was a delectable calico morsel, hers for the eating. On the right, a complete stranger, who held a sharp cutting instrument close to her human’s throat. For a self-proclaimed German shepherd guard dog, the decision was obvious.

Protect the one who feeds you.

Bella dove for Crystal, growling and snapping her teeth. Crystal screamed. Her hand spasmed. The scissors closed, cutting a three-inch-wide swath from my hair. “Help!” she yelled. “Keep that vicious dog away from me!”

“Bella, stop,” I yelled in return. “This is our friend!”

Bella skidded to a stop beside me, then took off after the kitten. She sniffed back and forth between the shampoo bowl and the cabinet, whining.

I gasped at my reflection in the mirror. “My hair!”

The left side of my hair floated down past my shoulders. The right ended at the top of my ear.

Crystal pointed at my right ear and proclaimed, “This isn’t my fault. The dog attacked me!”

I bared my teeth at Rene. She replied with a submissive grin. “At least asymmetrical haircuts are in style.”

What a pawsome scene. Thanks for sharing it.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

I play a very important role in this book, and it’s nice to be taken seriously. When you’re a semi-feral kitten, people just want to catch you and touch you all the time. They don’t necessarily see how intelligent you are or value what you’re trying to tell them, including “Keep your hands to yourself!” In Tracy’s book, I get to be myself, yet still be the center of attention, at least for a few pivotal scenes. I like that.

I imagine that must be enjoyable. Even though I was found at the Cobble Cove library, I was never feral, but my background is a mystery.

Are you a talking cat in your books or just a silent one like I am who just meows occasionally?

If you mean do I speak English, of course not. What self-respecting kitty would lower herself to use the language of humans?

Well, there are some character cats who talk, but they are mostly in children’s books and animated films.

What advice would you give other cat characters?

Get a good agent and hold out for tuna. Lots and lots of tuna.

Purrfect advice.

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

My book, Pre-Meditated Murder, releases today, January 8th. I’m not mentioned in this blurb about the book, but believe me, I’m an important part of it.

If Kate Doesn’t Act Fast, the Only “I Do” in Michael’s Future Will Be at His Trial

Yoga instructor Kate Davidson is ready to marry her boyfriend Michael, so she’s disappointed when a special dinner doesn’t end with a proposal. But disappointment turns to dismay and outrage as she learns the real problem: Michael is already married and his estranged wife is blackmailing him.

When his wife’s body is found―by Kate and her dog, no less―Michael is strangely unable to remember where he was the night she died. Since Michael has no alibi, Kate steps up to uncover what happened. What she walks into is a tangled web of deceit, obsession, and immigration fraud . . . with Michael trapped in the middle.

Wow, Meow. That sounds pawsome. I wish you and your author luck with it.
