Artist: FKA Twigs
Song: “Pendulum”
Album: LP1 (2014)
Label: Young Turks
Genre: R&B
Highlights:
-FKA Twigs’ soft voice and sweet vocal melodies
-the swelling synths in the verses
“Pendulum” is a very intimate track. The instrumentation is sparse; production, minimal. The highlight of the track is really FKA Twigs’ voice. The vocal phrasing moves at a slow pace, the vocal melody is very pretty and I can’t help but shudder when the vocal harmonies come in. There’s stuttering percussion and swelling synths in the verses that accompany her voice beautifully. I must admit that R&B is not particularly genre I care too much for, however, FKA Twigs has a style that is nocturnal, odd, and pretty which certainly makes her more interesting in my eyes than her contemporaries.
