I wonder how many people in McMinnville know that when the church people bring their kids to your door, in those pressed red and white blouse and skirts, or blue slacks and a white shirt with a red sweater vest, neatly dressed and irresistible smiles, to get sponsors for their school’s Bike-A-Thon fundraiser, they privately call this ‘Spoiling the Egyptians’?
I know. That was me. And I’m Sorry.
Life Christian Academy, the educational arm, or some would call it the indoctrination arm of Abundant Life Pentecostal Church in McMinnville has an annual fundraiser called Bike-A-Thon. My son attended this school for nine of his twelve years in school, and in all those years, I was the one bringing that irresistible smile to your door asking for your money so I wouldn’t have to pay more tuition fees.

First, let me say there is absolutely nothing wrong with charitable organizations seeking donations, and these kids ride a fun 30km bike ride to earn your sponsors. More importantly, these kids are innocent to the reality of what the leadership of their church is doing.
What I am going to talk about is the behind closed doors way in which they aim to rob you of your money, as Egyptians. Not in honest fundraising, but in believing that you are the heathen meant to fuel their purposes.
You see, the phrase spoil the Egyptians comes from the story of the Exodus, in which God’s people, the Hebrews, fled Egyptian slavery, and during their departure, the women took jewelry, silver, gold, and clothing from the homes of their neighbors.
But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians. – Exodus 30:22
They will laughingly say they are spoiling the Egyptians when promoting this fundraiser. They will joke and say, ‘God’s people did it, and we will too!’ or, ‘Why not take their money, they are just Egyptians.’
You, the neighbor, are the Egyptians, and you didn’t even know it. The significance is that Egypt, according to Scripture, is a type and shadow of the World (enmity with God), non-believers, heathens, sub-humans that deserve to be cleaned out for the work of God. You exist to provide for God’s people, the Apostolic Pentecostals of McMinnville.
But wait, what if you are a Believer in Jesus? You are still a heathen because you are not Oneness Pentecostal as Abundant Life Pentecostal Church dictates. All churches in town, all members of those churches, are destined to the hell of Satan for not being a Pentecostal.
I don’t write this because I am bitter, or angry, or put out, or mad. In fact, it has taken a year for me to get to the place where I would name this fallacy, by naming the church itself. There comes a time and place where exposing wrongdoing, is the right thing to do.
So the next time they come to your door asking for ‘sponsors’, or donations for Bike-A-Thon, ask yourself, do you want to fund a leader who teaches his children to call you heathen, Egyptian, and to ridicule you with laughter when counting the $100,000 in sponsors they took from McMinnville, OR?
Knowing that they have no food banks, no clothing handouts, no shelters. That $100,000 goes in to making sure that pastor, who will only drive a BMW and nothing less, and the parents of the kids, don’t have to pay more for their school tuition and equipment?
I am not bitter, you deserve to know the truth because I robbed you for nine years. I hope you spread this word. If you look at the YouCaring.com site, they claim to have taken $100,000 this year for their church school that the public is not allowed in to.
