The Darling Dahlias
review 1: This was a nice, little read, set in the 30s in the US south. It's the first book in the series I've read, and I will search out the others. You could tell the author has done her research on the period, but the inclusion of period food brands, radio programs, etc. red almost as if the author had a check list, and checked off each item as she wrote it into the story. Just a slight criticism - overall, a good story.
review 2: Set in Alabama in the 1930's, this is the third in a series of mysteries featuring the members of the Darling Dahlias Club. In this one, Verna Tidwell's job in the county probate office (recently enlarged to include the county treasurer's office) is threatened when a state audit reveals $15,000 in missing funds from the county treasury. The
... more Dahlias rally and help her investigate to find the actual culprit. Meanwhile, a new mystery is revealed when librarian Dorothy Rogers discovers a mysterious code embroidered on a pillow she inherited from her grandmother. The characters are charming and the solution to the cipher mystery is great fun! less
