January brings with it the start of our final building phase. Finishes! This month the kitchen will be installed, tiles will be laid in the bathrooms and laundry, the electrician will start to fit lights and fans, and skirting, architraves and door jams will be installed ready for internal doors.
We have spent the Christmas break painting the tongue and groove pine lining boards on the ceiling. Well, Blake did! The pine can leech sap through the paint so he first covered the knots in the wood with primer/sealer and did a full undercoat to ensure perfect coverage. After two coats of ceiling paint in Dulux natural white, they are looking beautiful.
This week the builders have started installing the hardwood (spotted gum) posts on the right angles of the internal cobb walls. This gives a nice aesthetic feature while protecting the render. Timber skirting in the same stain will be fitted to connect to these posts and provide cohesiveness.
Blake, my Dad, Blake’s Dad and I have also been working hard to design and build bathroom mirrors/cabinets out of Tasmanian Oak. So far we have the construction done, and now Blake and I will sand and oil the timber ready for mirrors to be slotted into the back of box frame. We have made a slightly smaller one for the ensuite with open shelving on the left of the boxed mirror, and one with shelving on each side for the main bathroom.
Lots of changes will be happening over the next few weeks, so I look forward to showing you more pictures soon!
