Okay so I found this book while I was completing my work experience at Vintage; it was recommended as a read for Black History month, and it caught my eye. I’m on a mission to read more poetry, and this is a novel written in verse which really got me excited; I’ve never read a novel in verse, so I really want to see how that’s going to work.
The Emperor’s Babe is set in 3rd century Roman Britain and I’m a sucker for a historical setting. The novel follows Zuleika who becomes the emperor’s mistress while unhappily married to a senator. It just sounds like such an interesting premise that I can’t wait to get my teeth into this in verse novel.
