Sunwatchers have found a new home in the psych institution Trouble In Mind records with whom they will release their sophomore LP II on February 2nd.
Self-described as “Punk jazz drone out of Brooklyn”, the band have always been one to sidestep convention. This sentiment was reinforced in their eponymous debut album released by weirdo garage rocker John Dwyer’s label Castle Face Records which saw elements of psychedelia, jazz, Ethiopian and Thai music incorporated in to a final product not dissimilar to the likes of Naked City.
‘Nose Beers’ from the forthcoming II continues and expands upon the band’s ability to defy classification. Clocking in at barely over 2 minutes, the song finishes as abruptly as it begins. With that said, it makes sense that the band look to make an immediate impression by descending in to sonic frenzy from the word go. Drums and bass hold together the composition by a thread whilst Eastern modalities drone and riff above in a fast textural build. The song culminates with the introduction of a saxophone that squarks and screams, moving within the limited space that remains with the subtlety and nuance of a bull in a china shop.
‘Nose Beers’ proves to be the perfect entrée, wetting the appetites of listeners weeks before the main course arrives.
Yesterday Trouble In Mind announced a full European tour in support of the band’s release which you can view below in addition to the band’s existing US tour dates.
