The Beautiful Brain: The Drawings of Santiago Ramón y Cajal

Blending art and neuroscience, a new exhibit in New York City showcases the drawings of Santiago Ramón y Cajal, the father of modern neuroscience. The exhibit opened yesterday at New York University’s Grey Art Gallery, and you have until March 31 to take it in.

Paired with the art exhibit are a series of free, related talks and workshops, and we encourage you to check them out. Three of our Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives members will be participating on separate evenings:

  • Nobel laureate Eric Kandel, University Professor and Fred Kavli Professor, Department of Neuroscience, Columbia University, will participate in “Roundtable Conversation: At the Intersection of Art, Neuroscience, and Perception,” on February 5. Registration required.
  • Rodolfo Llinás, Thomas and Suzanne Murphy Professor, University Professor, and Chairman Emeritus of Neuroscience & Physiology, NYU Langone Medical Center, will give the lecture, “Cajal and the Enchanted Loom,” on February 16.
  • Margaret S. Livingstone, Takeda Professor of Neurobiology, Harvard Medical School, will give the Irving H. Jurow Lecture at NYU’s College of Arts & Science, “What Art Can Tell Us About the Brain, “ on March 20.

We’ll be covering some of these events, so stay tuned for coverage!
