The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell

The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell; 498 pages

Summary:

The Mageus are a dying breed, feared by society because of their abilities. Eats has the ability to manipulate time; she can freeze it or go into the Last. But there may be a way to liberate the Mageus, a book called the Ars Arcana. The only problem, it disappeared in 1902. Now Esta must travel back further than she ever has before, to save the book and save magic.

My thoughts:

I absolutely loved this book! It has everything I love in it! Time travel, an early 1900s setting, and a good heist. Lisa Maxwell is quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors. I’ve read all of her books and have yet to be disappointed!

All the characters in the story have their own unique ability, a form of old magic. It adds so much to the story, having a heist being conducted by people who can slow time, bend lights, etc.

All the characters were great too. Esta and Viola were such strong, badass women in a time where men ruled the world. The relationship between Esta and Harte was fun to watch develop too.

What’s even more exciting is there’s going to be a second book! With the way this book ended, there had to be another one coming. I’m so excited for it, I think it has potential to be even better than the first!
