In The Opportunist, we meet Olivia Kaspen – both her past and present self. Olivia loves Caleb Drake but ruined her chances with him, destroying a future they both had dreamed of. Now he’s dating Leah Smith and Olivia is trying to move on as best she can. But now Olivia’s run into Caleb and he doesn’t remember her, their time together, or the reason they parted. Olivia thinks she can win him back because he’s forgotten how much she hurt him in the past. But Leah won’t let him go that easy.
When I discovered Goodreads, I was so happy. I had never had a sight that I could discover new books on before. I only had recommendations from a friend and while we have very similar tastes in books, our choices were limited. Then I found Goodreads and it was like the clouds parted and the heavens sang: I found a home.
That is how I discovered my reads then. That is how I found The Opportunist and Tarryn Fisher. That, and another book mentioned it.
I was curious, it sounded interesting, and I had to read it. Sadly, it took me six years but better late than never.
The Opportunist had a lot going on. Like, a lot. There is amnesia, kidnappings, crime, crazy women, my head was spinning. But it went well together, it flowed, it made sense in the end. And I like that in a book.
Tarryn Fisher has a way of writing women I hate. I was not a fan of Olivia. She wasn’t a woman I wanted to root for but that was a good thing for me – hating and liking her at the same time. She continuously said that she wasn’t a good person and that was obvious from the start, but Olivia did have a vulnerability found after peeling back a few layers.
My only issue was the ending. It felt different than the rest of the book. It seemed as if it was written by someone else. It didn’t have the same emotion or spunk, Olivia seemed to lose her fight, she seemed to lose everything that made her awesome.
